Environment Agency Starts Third National Waste Crime Survey
The Environment Agency (EA) has officially launched the third version of its National Waste Crime Survey. This survey is now open and will remain available until Sunday, 23 February 2025.
What is the Survey About?
The EA has invited the waste industry to take part in a brief survey to help them better understand the scale and impact of waste crime across the UK.
By participating, you’ll be directly supporting the EA’s efforts to tackle illegal waste practices and protect legitimate businesses in the sector.
The survey will take about 15 minutes to complete, and all responses will be treated with complete confidentiality and remain anonymous.
The Cost of Waste Crime
Waste crime is costing the UK economy an estimated £1 billion annually. In 2023, survey participants estimated that 18% of waste may be dealt with unlawfully at some point in the supply chain. That’s around 34 million tonnes of waste each year, which is enough to fill four million skips.
The EA is committed to stopping waste criminals from harming the environment, damaging communities, and undermining the legitimate waste management sector. By filling out the survey, you’ll help the agency to better understand the issue, improve its efforts, and assess the effectiveness of the actions being taken.
Why Should You Participate?
Your involvement in the survey will help the EA gain valuable insights into the extent of waste crime, allowing them to act faster and more efficiently. Your experience and knowledge will play a key role in protecting the environment, local communities, and your business.
