EA Fee Increases Coming into Force This October
New Charges from 1 October 2025
The Environment Agency (EA) has confirmed that a series of regulatory fee increases will take effect from 1 October 2025. These changes follow a consultation held in April 2025 and will update both the Environment Agency Charging Scheme 2022 and the Waste Charging Scheme 2018.
The revised charges will affect a wide range of regulatory areas, including:
- Environmental permits
- Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)
- Waste batteries and accumulators
- Waste carriers, brokers and dealers
- International waste shipments
- Transfrontier movement of radioactive waste and spent fuel
Impact of the Consultation
During the consultation earlier this year, the EA put forward proposals to raise costs across several categories. One of the most notable increases is a 14% uplift for International Waste Shipment (IWS) fees, a rise that will be particularly significant for organisations involved in cross-border waste management.
EA’s Final Response
In its official response, published on 1 August 2025, the EA confirmed that the majority of the proposed increases will go ahead without adjustment. This means businesses operating within these regulated areas should now prepare for higher compliance costs from October onwards.
