UK Government Delays Mandatory Plastic Film Collections Until 2030: What Does This Mean for Your Business?
On 16 July 2026, the UK Government officially confirmed a major change to its national environmental strategy: the mandatory separate collection of plastic films and flexible packaging has been postponed until 1 April 2030.
The requirement was originally due to come into force much sooner as part of the wider Simpler Recycling reforms. However, the four-year delay gives businesses and local authorities valuable extra time to prepare. At the same time, the decision will have a significant impact on how companies plan to meet their environmental commitments.
